Pre Purchase Exams
Owning a horse can be a huge undertaking. Pre Purchase exams are invaluable in the buying process. Technically a horse does not “pass or fail” a pre purchase exam – their purpose is to provide the purchaser with as much information as possible about the health and condition of their potential new horse. Every buyer’s needs are different, and exam findings that might be acceptable for one may not be for another.
During a typical pre purchase exam, our veterinarians will perform thorough physical, ophthalmologic, lameness and neurological examinations. If the horse is going to be bred, a breeding soundness exam would be recommended. Depending on the needs of the client and the findings on these exams, more specialized diagnostics may be utilized. Typically these would include Digital Radiography, endoscopy, and various blood tests. After all the information is gathered a determination if the horse is physically appropriate for the buyers intended use is made. |
Performance Exams
Is your horse not performing up to his fullest potential? There are a variety of reasons why this may be happening – some obvious and some not so apparent. Through the use of thorough history taking, appropriate exams or tests (ie; bloodwork) and diagnostics, we may be able to uncover subtle issues that may be plaguing your equine partner and make suggestions to help him perform to his best ability. |
